      Individual arrival in the Spanish capital. In the evening you will meet your tour guide and your fellow travelers at a dinner in a typical restaurant. Here you will receive first interesting information about your stay in Madrid. (A)

      After breakfast you will walk from the hotel to the Plaza de Oriente with its romantic street cafes. Here you will find the beautiful Teatro Real and the fascinating royal palace "Palacio Real", which you will visit. The palace is still used by the Spanish royal family to receive guests on high occasions. Afterwards, you will enjoy a coffee or tea at the Cafรฉ de Oriente (included) and experience the typical life of the Madrileneans. The famous literary cafรฉ has a neo-baroque interior and resembles a Viennese coffee house. From there you will get to the Plaza Mayor. The square is considered the most beautiful monumental square in Madrid, impressing with its architectural unity and the legacy of the Spanish Habsburgs. Afterwards, you will visit one of the most typical neighborhoods of the city, La Latina. It has a medieval character. Worth seeing are the Basilica of San Francisco el Grande and the Cathedral of Santa Marรญa de la Almudena. Here you can also find many bars and traditional taverns, which are very popular among the Madrileneans. Let the evening fade away with pleasure. (F)

      You stroll across the famous "Puerta del Sol" square to the literary quarter Barrio de las Letras. The district boasts pretty squares, small alleyways and traditional stores and businesses where people still make shoes or forge them according to centuries-old traditions. The shoe store "Don Flamenco", which specializes in shoes for flamenco dancing, is well known. But other stores, such as the enchanting flower store "El Jardรญn del รngels" or "Licores Cabello", where wines and liqueurs have been sold since 1902, are also worth a visit. Many important writers of the Spanish Golden Age, such as Lope de Vega, Gรณngora and Cervantes, lived in this part of Madrid. You can see fragments and small texts engraved on the pavement to commemorate this period. Afterwards, enjoy a break at Plaza Santa Ana before visiting the famous Prado Museum on Madridโ€™s art mile. As the most important art museum in the city and one of the largest museums in the world, the Prado has a large collection of Spanish paintings from the 11th to 18th centuries as well as paintings by Italian, Flemish, German, French and English painters. It impresses with selected works by great artists of international standing, such as Velรกsquez, El Greco, Goya and Rembrandt. In the late afternoon, you will reach the Cรญrculo de Bellas Artes cultural institution. The building has an artistically significant history, as Picasso took painting lessons here at a young age. You visit the current exhibition and enjoy the magnificent view from the roof terrace over the sea of houses in the capital. Warm lights, cozy but stylish corners for sitting and relaxing invite you to spend the evening here. (F)

      Organize your own day and explore Madrid on your own. For art lovers we recommend the Reina Sofia Museum with the famous painting "Guernica" by Picasso or the Museo Sorolla, where you can admire the works of the artist of the same name. Or you can stroll through the former market hall "Mercado de San Miguel", which is now a culinary market and offers a wide range of gastronomic delights. Alternatively, we offer you a four-hour city tour. Together with your tour guide you will get to know the famous National Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza. The museum displays over a thousand works of art of European painting from the late Middle Ages to the 20th century, collected by Baron Heinrich ThyssenBornemisza and his son. Afterwards, you will walk through the most beautiful park of the capital, the Retiro. It is considered the green lung of Madrid and impresses with its many fountains, artificial ponds, the tiled exhibition pavilion Palacio de Velรกzquez and the fabulously beautiful Palacio de Cristal, built of glass and iron. The excursion can be booked with your tour guide on site (the price depends on the number of participants, for 8 persons approx. 110 โ‚ฌ p.p. incl. transport by public transport and entrance fee). In the evening you will meet again and enjoy typical tapas together in a local restaurant. (B/A)
