Itinerary of your trip Into The Wild: Jungle Trek, Village Homestay, And Waterfall

  • Day 1 Day 1: Luang Prabang
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 1: Luang Prabang

HALF-DAY TREK TO LOCAL VILLAGE AND HOMESTAY (L, D) Meet your guide and enjoy a 35-minute ride through the countryside to our trekking start point. When you arrive at Ban Phonexay, youโ€™ll begin the 4-hour trek to the Khmu and Hmong village of Nong Khuay that will take you deep into the jungle, over streams, under bamboo forests and up steep hills that offer magnificent views of Laos.  Youโ€™ll have a picnic lunch along the way. When you reach Nong Khuay, your tour guide will introduce you to your host family for the night. If time permits, trek 30 minutes to Tom Douk cave. Your guide will tell you more about this hidden cavern as you explore its dark terrain.  Back in the village, settle in to your Eco Bungalow or homestay and explore the village to get to know your hosts - learn a few words of their language, try your hand at cooking traditional meals or share some pictures youโ€™ve taken of your trip in Laos on your digital camera. Enjoy dinner in the village.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Luang Prabang
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 2: Luang Prabang

JUNGLE TREK AND HOMESTAY (B, L, D) Have breakfast with your hosts this morning. The village name Nong Khuay translates to โ€œbuffalo lake,โ€ and you can hike to this famous lake afterwards. (Note: Visit to the lake only during rainy season from July โ€“ December). Then head out on the trail again to the Hmong village of Long Lao Mai. Itโ€™s a 4-hour hike but youโ€™ll be able to stop along the way for lunch and soak in the stunning natural scenery around you.  At Long Lao Mai, your guide will introduce you to your host family. Then, take a tour of the community where youโ€™ll meet some of your neighbors. A few villagers sell beautiful hand-made bracelets and other handicrafts to earn supplemental income that supports their main livelihood as subsistence farmers. The handicrafts make unique and meaningful souvenirs!  Dinner is served in the sala outside under the stars - or you may share a meal with villagers in their home. After a traditional Hmong meal, rest after the last few days of trekking in the comfort of your own room.  The Long Lao Mai Eco-Bungalow:  This boutique clay lodge has 2 private rooms that each accommodates up to 4 people (a total of 8 people can stay in the Eco Bungalow at one time).  Each room has: โ€ข King size bed โ€ข Loft with 2 single mattresses โ€ข Western-style bathroom โ€ข Enclosed outdoor shower with hot water  For groups larger than 8 people, nearby homestays or available.

  • Day 3 Day 3: Luang Prabang
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 3: Luang Prabang

LUSH JUNGLE TREK AND KUANG SI WATERFALL (B, L) After a hearty breakfast, trek 3 hours through lush jungle to one of Luang Prabangโ€™s favorite sites, the Kuang Si Waterfall, with its Asiatic bear sanctuary and many cascading pools to swim in and explore. Take lunch in the jungle on the way and donโ€™t rush at the falls. After a refreshing afternoon at the waterfall weโ€™ll pick you up for your return transfer to Luang Prabang.

A Community-based Tourism (CBT) Initiative.  Seeing an opportunity in Nong Khuay and Long Lao Mai villages to help the community benefit from tourism to their village, they developed the idea of homestays that would act as supplemental income for the villagers โ€“ 100% of your accommodation fee is circulated back to the community as a form of income for maintaining the villages. Learn more about this CBT initiative.
