  • Day 1 Day 1: Arrival To Cusco

      Day 1: Arrival To Cusco

      Upon your arrival at the airport in Cusco, an Inkayni Peru Tours member will be there to greet you and take you to our partner lodge, located in the charming historic district of Cusco. This day will be reserved for resting and acclimatizing to the altitude, approximately 3400 meters (11,000 feet).

      Meet your expedition group at 5:00 pm

  • Day 2 Day 2: Sacred Valley (Chinchero โ€“ Moray โ€“ Salt Mines)

      Day 2: Sacred Valley (Chinchero โ€“ Moray โ€“ Salt Mines)

      This day we will begin our adventure up to the high plains, stopping first at Chinchero, an important ancient site for the Inca, known as the birth place of the rainbow. We will visit the main site with its picturesque conlonial church located upon the ancient archaelogical site and continue to a local textile center where we will learn about the ancient science of weaving from the very artisans themselves and how they bring to magic these wonderful pieces of art dyed with minerals, plants and seeds. Continuing through the rolling hills we will visit the enigmatic circular terraces of Moray where we will learn about how these constructions served as an experimental agricultural center to selectively cultivate the best breeds of Andean staple crops at different temperatures.  Near Moray we will stop at the town of Maras to then visit the ancient salt mines, used for thousands of years by local families to supply salt not only to the Incas, but still to this day offering us an example of the natural art of salt harvesting straight from the land.

      Later, weโ€™ll catch the train in Ollantaytambo train station towards Aguas Calientes to rest and recharge our energies for our next glorious day.

  • Day 3 Day 3: Machu Picchu

      Day 3: Machu Picchu

      Today we will rise very early for breakfast and ascend to the citadel Inka of Machu Picchu (approx 25 minutes by bus) to appreciate the sunrise in this magical place, a famous masterpiece of architecture and engineering, believed to have been a sanctuary and energetic center. Today Machu Picchu is recognized by UNESCO as one of the seven wonders of the world and a World Heritage site.

      Optional: The trek to the peak of Huayna Picchu OR Machupicchu Mountain, a climb on steep trails with impressive ruins and spectacular views, a round-trip of 3 hours.

  • Day 4 Day 4: Return To Ollantaytambo โ€“ Pisaq

      Day 4: Return To Ollantaytambo โ€“ Pisaq

      In the afternoon we will arrive at Ollantaytambo and continue onwards to the town of Pisaq, offering us a spectacular encounter with the engineering of the Incas demonstrated by mountainsides full of terraces and buildings on steep hillsides and high peaks. As we journey to the top of this mountain the heights will offer us the best views of the Sacred Valley below. Later we will return to the town of Pisaq and visit the local artisan market of craftsmen, complete with products of all kinds, offering you everything from weavings to musical instruments and all sorts of souvenirs. After completing our visit to the market we will aboard our transportation back to Cusco. Along the way, we will stop at Awanacancha, weaving center and also an opportunity to meet the Andean species of camels, such as alpaca, llama, vicuรฑa, and guanaco, as we continue to dive deeper into the science of weaving and appreciate this hand-made art by Andean women.

  • Day 5 Day 5: Rainbow Mountain

      Day 5: Rainbow Mountain

      You will need to wake up early to enjoy this natural marvel at its best. Between 3:45 am and 4:15 am, weโ€™ll pick you up directly from your hotel to start our ride to  the south of Cusco through beautiful landscapes of valleys and agricultural communities. First we will drive for around 2 hours to to the town of Cusipata (3,329m / 12,772 ft.).

      After breakfast  near Cusipata we will continue our trip by van, following a beautiful way between the mountains, accompanied by our first views of Ausangate, highest peak of Cusco. Along the way we will pass through herds of hundreds of alpacas and llamas and the occasional shepherd or local people moving about their daily activities.

      Our ascent will begin in Phuluwasipata and last about 2 hours, bringing us to our final destination and highest point on our Rainbow Mountain trek (or Vinicunca trek), at 5,020 mts / 16,470 ft. Here we will stop to admire and appreciate the outstanding views in all directions and the rare geological formations that appear to be painted with exotic colors by Gods hand. Far below and into the distance are infinite valleys and glaciers as far as one can see. We will stop for about 30 minutes โ€“ the perfect amount of time to rest, to have a snack, and immerse yourself in this wild environment before we must begin our descent, roughly an hour and a half hours towards the point where we started the dayโ€™s hike in Phuluwasipata, there our transport will be waiting to take us to restaurant in Chillihuani where we enjoy an energizing lunch. We will have time after lunch to visit some of the local households and observe the lifestyle and customs that are still being practiced today since Inca times. Here the native language of Quechua is spoken very well and agriculture is essential for life.

      At the end of the day our tour will conclude with an opportunity to meet with local people from the community before making our journey back to Cusco in our private van. We will leave you back at your hotel around 4:30 p.m to 5:30 p.m.

  • Day 6 Day 6: Departure To Puno (Route Of The Sun)

      Day 6: Departure To Puno (Route Of The Sun)

      In the morning we will depart from the bus terminal and head towards Puno. This is a special journey by bus which allows us to visit the many diverse locations along the way on the route of the sun. There will we planned stops to visit the following:

      Andahuaylillas: (the Sistine Chapel of the Americas, this temple is one of the best examples of the fusion between Catholic and Andean religions)

      Raqchi: A Inka temple dedicated to the God Wiracocha, construction of monumental dimensions, an estimated 100 meters long, 26m wide, 14m high. This is the only known temple dedicated to the God Wiracocha, creator of the Universe.

      La Raya: Midway point on our journey and highest point on the road โ€“ 4335 m.s.n.m. The impressive views here allow us to admire the rugged high altitude, full of tall peaks, many of which are snow-capped, and herds of llamas, alpacas and vicuรฑas. This is the geografic border between two cultures, the Quechua of Cusco and the Aymara of Puno.

      Pucara: This ceremonial center is one of the oldest and most important of the high plains, well known for its lithic structures and tombs.

  • Day 7 Day 7: Uros (Floating Islands) โ€“ Taquile Island

      Between 7.00am and 07:20 am we will transfer you from the hotel to the port and by motor boat, we take you to one of the legendary Uros Islands where you can observe the lives of the Uros people who live on floating reed islands, some only 20 meters in length. After a beautiful 3hr boat ride we reach Taquile Island where we will break into smaller groups to stay with the local families. You have the opportunity to trek to the top of the mountain (4150 m.a.s.l) to see the Temples of the Pachamama and Pachatata and enjoy the traditional customs of the island people. Food and authentic music prepared and performed by your designated family. Then we return to Puno and transfer back to your hotel.

  • Day 8 Day 8: Puno โ€“ Juliaca โ€“ Fly To Lima

      According to your flight schedule, weโ€™ll be ready to transfer you to the Juliaca airport, located 1 hour from Puno city.

      After this brief transfer from Puno to the neighboring city of Juliaca weโ€™ll say goodbye and finish our services. (End of tour)

      NOTE: Please note that domestic flights are not included and will need to be arranged on your own. In addition, we need to know your flight details from Juliaca to Lima to set the time for pick-up.
