      Welcome to Costa Rica, one of the happiest places on earth.


      Your driver will meet you at the exit of the SJO International Airport. He will welcome you to our country, introduce you to your coming adventure, and will drive you to your hotel for the first night in Costa Rica!

  • Day 2 Day 2: Tortuguero

      Day 2: Tortuguero

      Twenty minutes after leaving San Josรฉ towards the Caribbean lowlands, you will drive into the Braulio Carrillo National Park, one of the largest and most diverse parks in the country. After approximately 30 minutes, you will descend into the lowlands, and youโ€™ll be able to see the transition between the Cloud and the Rain Forest Breakfast will be taken in a restaurant on the way At mid morning youโ€™ll arrive to the port where youโ€™ll get on a river boat. Your vacation begins in Tortuguero, as todayโ€™s destination is the north coast with the fascinating canals of the Tortuguero National Park, considered the Costa Rican Amazon. Your boat will take you up to this national park, with its extensive system of canals, and to the lodge where you will spend the night Your guide will give you detailed explanations of this complex Eco-system. Miles of untouched Caribbean beaches also offer the opportunity to see (when in season) the green sea turtle nesting, the worldโ€™s second largest sea turtle You will visit the little town of Tortuguero and the museum of the green turtle, during the afternoon

  • Day 3 Day 3: Tortuguero

      Another full day to explore the Tortuguero area: a floating trip on the canals is a great opportunity to see a big variety of birds, reptiles, monkeys, and butterflies. some of the emblematic bird species you will find here are the green ibis, the mottled owl, the black hawk-eagle, the agami heron, the montezuma oropendola, the white hawk or the keel- billed toucan, just to name a few. When in season there is an optional night tour to see the green turtle laying eggs on the beach

  • Day 4 Day 4: Sarpiquรญ

      Day 4: Sarpiquรญ

      As your birding journey continues, you will leave the beautiful Caribbean coast, through the beautiful rivers of the North Caribbean, and back to the pier to jump back into the bus to drive to the Sarapiqui area.

      During the night tour you will be guided across the suspension bridge and explore the rainforest when it is dark and when most of the rainforest animals are active, you may have the opportunity to spot animals like sloths, the red-eyed tree frog, porcupine, kinkayou and more.

  • Day 5 Day 5: Tirimbina

      Tirimbina Rainforest reserve for bird watching! During the tour a local guide will share in an entertaining way their knowledge about this animals while they go through the borders of rivers, to primary and secondary forests in search of different species of birds such as Tanagers, honeycreepers and herons. Some outstanding species that can be found are Sunbittern, Snowy Cotinga, White Fronted Nunbird, Black-Crested Coquette and more.

  • Day 6 Day 6: Arenal

      Transfer to La Fortuna in the morning after an early breakfast.


      In 1968 the Arenal Volcano, which until then was an inoffensive hill, erupted and buried the community of Pueblo Nuevo.  The lands of the District lost a lot of value and many of their residents left the place. However, little by little, spectacular eruptions of the volcano attracted tourists and La Fortuna passed from an agricultural area to a touristic region.  Arenal is a large symetrical volcano built upon layers of ash, rock and lava at almost 1700 meters above sea level.    Although it went into a dormant phase in 2010, its internal activity produces the natural hot springs that can be enjoyed in many of the surrounding areas.


      You will have the end of afternoon and the evening to enjoy the many trails of the hotel.

  • Day 7 Day 7: Arenal

      Bird watching in the trails of your hotel. You will be guided in an early bird watching walk, but you will have the rest of the day to enjoy the wellโ€“marked trails through primary and secondary rainforest and open pastureland on the 870-acre property offer plentiful birding opportunities. Some of the more spectacular birds include Three-wattled Bellbirds, Crested Guans, Orange-bellied Trogons, White Hawks, Laughing Falcons, Red-lored Parrots, Green Herons, Squirrel Cuckoos, Great Potoos, Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, Chestnut-mandibled Toucans, and Keel-billed Toucans.

  • Day 8 Day 8: Enesenada

      Your journey in Costa Rica continues as you start moving south to the Tropical Dry Forest of Ensenada Wildlife Refuge. 


      The property is a private refuge, in which the family run lodge lodge has a couple of economic activities such as salt production. It also became one of the most visited birding lodges of Costa Rica. 


      The refugeโ€™s natural beauty and abundant wildlife shares with you a diverse variety of species of plants and animals. As a visitor you can enjoy a number of activities, such as hiking, birdwatching, and nature photography. The refuge is also a popular destination for whale and dolphin watching, as the area is home to a number of species of marine mammals that can be observed from the shore or on boat tours.


      In addition the Ensenada Wildlife Refuge is also home to a number of cultural and historical sites, including the ruins of a former sugar mill and the old port of Ensenada. Through guided tours and exhibits at the visitor centre, you can learn about the regionโ€™s history and culture.


      Thanks to the refuge, the mangrove and coastal area has recovered much of the forest, and that makes this site an excellent location for nature lovers and especially bird watchers.


  • Day 9 Day 9: Mangrove At Ensenada

      Day 9: Mangrove At Ensenada

      Enjoy the Dry Forest as well as the Mangroves along the various trails where you will see much bird and plant life. You can choose between four marked trails through the different habitats of the reserve. Sendero Pescadores (Fishermenยดs Trail): mangroves, water fowl. Sendero Salinas (Salt Pans Trail): Mangroves, water fowl and monkeys. Sendero Alcaravรกn (Curlew Trail): Dry forest. Sendero Mirador (Lookout Trail): The lookout is situated on the highest hill of the ranch. 

  • Day 10 Day 10: Carara

      Day 10: Carara

      Time to transfer again down south to the Central Pacific: this is a transition area between the tropical dry forest and the rainforest of the south, so it becomes a unique and very interesting ecosystem.  On the way you make a stop at the Tรกrcoles River for a river safari, to get up-close with american crocodiles of all sizes, and observe an abundance of beautiful aquatic birds! Enjoy spectacular rainforest scenery and cruise through dense mangrove forest canals. Then you finally reach the lodge near Carara. The most common that you will likely find in your walk on the trails near the lodge are the scarlet macaw, fiery-billed aracari, the black-mandibled toucan, the orange-collared manaquin, the sunbittern, the purple gallinule, the northern jacana, amazon kingfisher, the muscovy duck and the great tinamou

  • Day 11 Day 11: Macaw Lodge

      Your lodge is located between two life zones, the humid tropical forest and the high humidity pre-montane forest, and is surrounded by expanses of rural roads, pastures, mature and secondary forests, and organic farming plots. These bioclimatic, ecological, and landscape conditions make it possible for an abundance of birds to live in the Central Pacific, surpassing 300 species of migratory and resident species.  The most common that you will likely find in your walk on the trails near the lodge are the scarlet macaw, fiery-billed aracari, the black-mandibled toucan, the orange-collared manaquin, the sunbittern, the purple gallinule, the northern jacana, amazon kingfisher, the muscovy duck and the great tinamou

      No visit to Costa Rica for a birding tour is complete without going to San Gerardo de Dota, but before you transfer there, you will make a stop in Barรบ, a wildlife refuge, which encompasses 330-hectare of land along the Pacific, offers spectacular bird and wildlife viewing. Here you can hike seven kilometers of trails through primary and secondary forest, mangrove, grassland, and even beach. In this variable landscape lives hundreds of types of birds and animals, including sloths, monkeys, peccaries, and toucans. You will see from tinamous to herons, egrets, hawks, woodpeckers, over 300 bird species have been spotted here! You will then continue to the cloud forest of Dota

      San Gerardo is one of Costa Ricaยดs favorite bird watching spots! Birdwatchers come all over the world to see the extraordinary Resplendent Quetzal! This is a lovely village huddled up against the roaring Talamanca Mountain Range and nested in the Savegre River Valley; over 170 species have been recorded in San Gerardo de Dota oak tropical cloud forest and nearby Sub-Alpine Rain Paramo covered peaks. This is a good site for highland tinamou, spotted wood quail, sulfur-winged parakeets, long tail silky flycather, ornate hawk-eagle, flame-colored tanager, golden-crowned warbler, spotted barbtail, black thighed grosbeak, collared trogon
