Hollywood also chose this region to film the movie โ€œHatariโ€ in which Hardy Kruger starred alongside the legendary John Wayne. Your day trip will include a visit to the Ngurdo Crater. Buffaloes, waterbucks, giraffes, warthogs, zebras and baboons can be seen all year round as well as many different bird species. • Day 3 Day 3: Arusha-Monduli
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 3: Arusha-Monduli

      Arusha to Monduli District

Drive to the Monduli Mountains, home to the Maasai Tribe. Stay at our base camp overlooking the Rift Valley with fantastic views of Gelai,Ol Donyo Lengai, Kilimanjaro and Meru. Take an afternoon walk or relax and enjoy the view. The Monduli Mountains are known for their natural beauty and breath taking cultural appeal, situated approximately 2 hours drive from Arusha. The peaks of these mountains are forested with cedar trees and other lush vegetation, and on the lower slopes are the dry thorn bushes which spread down to the Rift Valley floor. Our camp overlooks the Rift Valley with spectacular views of the Kilimanjaro, Meru, Longido, Gelai, Kitumbaine and Ol Donyo Lengai (which is known as the โ€œmountain of Godโ€ in the Maasai language). It is from here that you can explore the area, going down to the Rift Valley Floor for game trekking on foot or walk high into the Monduli range. Experiences the rich culture of the Maasai with our very own Maasai trekking guides (whose home it is). They will ensure that you not only get a warm welcome, but you get the true taste of adventure and a genuine cultural experience! See their traditional way of life; be invited into a Maasai home, even trade goods if you feel so inclined! After an afternoon of trekking and cross-cultural exploration, spend the night at our base camp under the stars.

  • Day 4 Day 4: Monduli-Lake Eyasi
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 4: Monduli-Lake Eyasi

In the morning, enjoy more trekking in Monduli, after lunch drive to Lake Eyasi for dinner and overnight at Hadzabe camp(Bushmans camp) Their language is similar to the click languages of other bushmen further south in the Kalahari. Clients are often invited to come and see their simple bush homes where the tree canopy alone or a cave provides them with shelter. They live entirely off the land as they have been for centuries. A few hours spent amongst the Bushmen makes the apparently inhospitable bush country come to life. To watch them hunt is truly unique experience โ€“ from the age of 4 and up โ€“ they stealthily spot then creep up on their prey skillfully killing it. We make camp at the Lake Eyasi Campsite and spend the night under the canvas falling asleep to the unfamiliar sounds of the bush.

Accommodation: dinner and overnight at the camp.

  • Day 5 Day 5: Lake Eyasi-Lake Natron
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 5: Lake Eyasi-Lake Natron

Activities in the Lake Natron area focus mainly on walks. You can walk out across the baked mud to the shores of the great soda lake itself, in which algae and zooplankton thrive โ€“ which in turn attract the flamingos that line the lakeโ€™s shore. Look back at the mesmerising view of Oldoinyo Lengai โ€“ standing tall in amongst rolling hills and flat plains. Its ash-grey colour and smoking top remind you that this is still very much active. This walk is best done in the very early morning or late afternoon out of the heat of the day.

Whilst here, take the chance to walk up to the Engero Sero Waterfalls. This walk winds up through a shady gorge (very welcome in the heat) between steep cliffs. Thereโ€™s a bit of gentle scrambling involved, and youโ€™ll also cross the river a few of times. However, after a few hours youโ€™ll reach a beautiful natural swimming pool surrounded by steep rock walls โ€“ showered by cascades of spring-water and overlooked by palm trees. We didnโ€™t mind getting a little wet, and so loved this walk and the swim at the bottom of falls

Accommodation dinner and overnight at Kamakia camp.
