Can you feel the tingling sensation? At the latest when the plane takes off for Spain, it spreads through you. Your thirst for adventure is boundless and before you know it, you’re in Madrid! You immediately leave the capital behind you: your hire car is ready and waiting. You take the wheel, turn up the music and step on the gas pedal - that’s how a road trip works! Your destination is the mysterious north of the country - Soria to be precise! Somewhere in the middle of nowhere, the small historic town appears before you. As soon as you have parked the rental car and stowed your luggage in the hotel, you set off on your first discovery tour of the old town. And it feels like a journey through time: narrow, medieval alleyways, historic buildings that tell a centuries-old story and the mighty church of Santo Domingo from the 12th century. A must see? The fantastic view from the Mirador de los cuatro vientos!

A stop in Logroño in the province of Rioja? It’s a must! The pretty town with its historic merchants’ houses is known for one thing above all: wine growing. Continue to the capital of the Navarra region. One thing is immediately clear to you: the clocks tick slower in Pamplona. The narrow streets with their colorful house facades and ornate balconies immediately cast a spell over you. On the main square Plaza del Castillo is the Iruña, the oldest café in the city - pure nostalgia! What do you order here? Preferably pinchos. By the way: Ernest Hemingway also loved the Art Nouveau-style café! You can enjoy a great view of Pamplona from the Balarte del Redín viewpoint. Have you noticed the bull statues? Pamplona has an old tradition of the annual Fiesta de San Fermín, which is famous for its running of the bulls.

You can hardly tear your eyes away, but your destination for the day is already waiting. Bilbao, the largest city in the Basque Country, welcomes you with an unusual mix of tradition and modernity. Snapshots of the colorful house facades in Casco Viejo and the white Zubizuri bridge in the box? Perfect! Fancy a little break? Doña Casilda Park is the perfect spot for a picnic at sunset. You wander through the park and suddenly find yourself in front of the palace of the same name. Fairytale vibes? Another must-see: the mysterious cave paintings of Altamira. Still not satisfied with your thirst for adventure? Then a stop in San Vicente de la Barquera is a must. The former fishing village with its beautiful bays and the mighty, snow-capped peaks of the Picos de Europa mountains seems to be straight out of a picture book - what a view! On we go to Gijón! Park the rental car, stow the suitcases and head into the city. Order a cider and toast your adventure with the sweet cider. It’s the drink of the Asturias region! In Gijón, the love of cider goes so far that the Fiesta de la Sidra Natural is celebrated over several days. Cheers!
