      If you arrive early, we recommend a walk along the famous Ramblas with a visit to the market hall "La Boqueria". In the evening you will get to know your fellow travelers and your tour guide during a dinner with typical tapas in a restaurant in the city. (A)

      On foot and by public transport, today you will move along the highlights of Barcelona. You will start your walk at the old harbor with its newly designed promenade and reach the seafaring district El Born with the famous church Santa Maria del Mar, known as the Cathedral of the Sea and a masterpiece of Catalan Gothic (inside visit). Small historic stores, but also modern boutiques give the medieval town center its special flair. Afterwards, the Barrio Gรณtico awaits you, still surrounded by the Roman city wall. Here you will find the most important medieval buildings, such as the great cathedral and the royal palace on the atmospheric Plaรงa del Rei. After a leisurely lunch break, you will follow in the footsteps of the artist Antoni Gaudรญ. You will be impressed by the cityโ€™s landmark: the unfinished, imposing church "Sagrada Familia" (UNESCO World Heritage Site; interior tour). It captivates with facades characterized by multi-layered symbolism and its tree-like column structure inside. Afterwards, walk to one of its most famous buildings, the expressionist-looking "Casa Milร " and "Casa Batllรณ" (both UNESCO World Heritage Sites; exterior tour). Let yourself be transported to the early 20th century and admire the gently curved balconies and the glazed colorful tiles with which the house captivates. Afterwards, let the eventful day come to an end. (F)

      Today you will get to know more facets of the metropolis and impressive sights in the immediate vicinity. You will take public transport to the 200-meter-high Montjuรฏc with the sports facilities of the 1992 Olympic Games. The area is also known for the buildings of the International Exhibition of 1929, e.g. the German Pavilion by Mies van der Rohe, the Catalan National Palace or the modern complex of the Botanical Garden. You will visit the famous collection Fundaciรณn Joan Mirรณ, where important works of the surrealist artist are exhibited. Then take a walk through Moorish-inspired gardens with the Teatre Grec, an open-air theater in the former quarry. The view of the cityโ€™s "sea of houses" is fantastic! You will reach the traditional neighborhood of Poble Sec, which is away from the usual tourism. In the early afternoon, you will take an excursion to the Benedictine Monastery of Montserrat, about 45 kilometers northwest of the city. This important pilgrimage site was built into the mountain and offers fascinating views of Barcelona and the Catalan hinterland. You will visit the monastery with its Romanesque, Gothic and up to modern style elements and can admire the famous, black Madonna "La Moreneta". In the evening we recommend a relaxing walk through your neighborhood "Eixample to Gaudรญโ€™s illuminated buildings on Passeig de Grร cia. (F)

      Today you have time to discover the city individually. Stroll along the famous boulevards and take advantage of the many shopping opportunities, stroll along the palm-lined beach promenade or relax on the 4-kilometer-long sandy beach. Alternatively, in the afternoon we recommend a four-hour guided tour to the masterpieces of Catalan Art Nouveau in Barcelona. Together with your guide you will get to know the magnificent Parc Gรผell (UNESCO World Heritage Site), where Gaudรญ designed a fairytale park. The famous dragon, grottos and the colorful "endless mosaic bank" will inspire you. From here you also have a wonderful view of the sea of houses of the city. Nature and fantasy also mix playfully in the "Sant Pau" hospital (UNESCO World Heritage Site) designed by architect Lluรญs Domรจnech i Montaner. The extensive park grounds are home to 48 different pavilions decorated with mosaics and sculptures. Each pavilion represents a medical department. This excursion can be booked with your local tour guide. (The price depends on the number of participants, for 8 persons approx. 70 โ‚ฌ p.p. incl. transport by public transport and entrance fees). At the final dinner with Spanish specialties in a restaurant in the city you can review your impressions. (B/A)
