Itinerary of your trip As A Guest In Locksmiths And Manor Houses

  • Day 1 Day 1: Dublin - Kingscourt
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 1: Dublin - Kingscourt

Individual arrival in Dublin. Then drive to County Cavan to Kingscourt to the first hotel of your round trip. On the way, you can make a detour to the Boyne Valley, where you will find an extensive collection of prehistoric cult sites, such as the Newgrange and Knowth burial mounds. Both Neolithic burial mounds are UNESCO World Heritage Sites and, at around 5,000 years old, are older than the pyramids in Egypt. We also recommend a visit to the "Bru na Boinne" information center (optional). The tour then continues to the historic ruins of Monasterboice (optional). The ruins contain the remains of a monastery, probably founded in the 5th century, with the most ornate high crosses in Ireland. Nearby are also the remains of two churches and a tombstone with a sundial. A visit to the Tara Hill or the Cistercian Abbey in Mellifont (optional) is also worthwhile. The "Hill of Tara" in the Boyne Valley is one of the most revered sites in the country, as it served as the seat of the ancient Irish high kings in pre-Christian times. Visitors can visit the remains of this place of worship, which dates back to the Bronze Age. Then continue to your first overnight stay. One night at Cabra Castle (upper middle class). Approx. 100 km/approx. 2 hrs.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Kingscourt - Westport
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 2: Kingscourt - Westport

Today you drive to Westport and can make a detour to Castle Coole (optional), Irelandโ€™s most beautiful neoclassical manor house, near Enniskillen. No expense was spared in the construction of the house in the late 18th century. Among other things, the stones were brought from southern England at great expense. Then continue via Sligo, with a visit to Sligo Abbey, to Drumcliff. In the former monastic settlement you will find the grave of the poet and Nobel Prize winner William Butler Yeats. You then continue your journey to Westport, which will captivate you with its picturesque streets and typical Irish hospitality. Not far from the village of Westport, Westport House is located directly on a small lake. You can visit the beautiful Georgian manor house from the 18th century during a short stop and learn all about the history of the house (optional). One night at Knockranny House Hotel (upper middle class). Approx. 320 km/approx. 5.5 hours (breakfast).

  • Day 3 Day 3: Westport - Clifden
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 3: Westport - Clifden

First you visit the Ceide Fields (optional), an excavation site from the Neolithic period that was buried in the moor for thousands of years. The prehistoric finds are between 5,000 and 6,000 years old, making them older than Stonehenge! Then drive to Achill Island, Irelandโ€™s largest island. With beautiful beaches, rugged mountains, spectacular sea cliffs and pretty villages, this beautiful island offers something for everyone. Enjoy the scenery on a walk along one of the five Blue Flag sandy beaches. You will then reach Clifden via Leenane and Letterfrack. The area around Clifden is one of the most scenic parts of the Connemara Peninsula. 2 nights at Abbeyglen Castle (upper middle class). Approx. 285 km/approx. 5 hours (breakfast).

  • Day 4 Day 4: Connemara
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 4: Connemara

Take a day trip through the impressive and pristine Connemara region with its dark moors and crystal-clear lakes such as Lough Corrib and Lough Mask. Even Oscar Wilde described the region as "wild beauty". The landscape is sparsely populated and dominated by the Twelve Bens and Maamturk Mountains. Characteristic are the sparse vegetation, the dark brown peat bogs, the bare rocks and black rivers, which, coupled with the constantly changing light, create an unusual atmosphere. The drive through the lonely Connemara is one of the most beautiful experiences in the west of Ireland. Worthwhile on this tour are a visit to the Benedictine monastery Kylemore Abbey (optional), which is idyllically situated on Lough Pollacopall, and a boat tour through Killary Harbour (optional, approx. 1.5 hours), the only fjord in Ireland. You also have the opportunity to visit the grounds of the imposing Ashford Castle, one of the worldโ€™s leading castle hotels (optional, by prior arrangement). Take this opportunity to treat yourself to lunch in the cottage, which is also located on the Ashford Castle Estate, or a stylish traditional afternoon tea in the castle! Good to know: Some areas and grounds of the hotel were also used as a film set for the series "Reign". Approx. 90 km/approx. 2.5 hours (breakfast).

  • Day 5 Day 5: Clifden - Doolin
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 5: Clifden - Doolin

Todayโ€™s program includes a tour of County Clare, known for its unusual yet fascinating flora and fauna. Visit the lively university and port city of Galway, home of the famous Claddagh Ring. With its many art galleries, boutiques and cafes, the city invites you to linger. Alternatively, you can stop off in one of the many traditional pubs, where Irish music is often played. Afterwards, drive via Ballyvaughan to the Aillwee Limestone Cave (optional), which is over 2 million years old, reaches unusually far into the mountain and was only discovered by chance by a shepherd in 1940. The tour then continues through the unique karst landscape of the Burren region, whose name is derived from the Irish Boireann, meaning "stony place". Typical of the Burren is its limestone surface, carved by glaciers and water, and its unusual flora. The numerous historic sites, ring forts and megalithic tombs, such as the Poulnabrone Dolmen, prove that this region was already inhabited in prehistoric times. The tour then continues to the impressive Cliffs of Moher (optional). The cliffs stretch over a length of 8 km and rise up to 200 m from the roaring Atlantic. Enjoy the breathtaking view! Also worth seeing is the "Atlantic Edge" exhibition in the underground visitor center. One night at Ballinalacken Castle (upper middle class). Approx. 170 km/approx. 3.5 hours (breakfast).

  • Day 6 Day 6: Doolin - Killarney
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 6: Doolin - Killarney

On the way to Killarney you can make a stop in Kilrush. Visit the Vandeleur Walled Gardens (optional), a beautiful garden with numerous rare plant species or the Shannon Dolphins Center, where you can listen to the sounds of the great dolphins from the mouth of the Shannon and learn all about the latest research and conservation efforts. Afterwards continue to Bunratty Castle & Folk Park (optional) with its numerous farmhouses, stores and village streets reflecting Irish life in the 19th century. Bunratty Castle is known as a perfectly restored example of Norman-Irish castle building. It was rebuilt several times over the centuries from 1277, giving it its characteristic appearance. Right next to Bunratty Castle is the Folk Park. Here you will find a faithful reproduction of a typical Irish village street, a village school and a pub. Historically dressed characters bring the Folk Park to life. Depending on time, you can also visit the famous Muckross House & Gardens (optional). The manor house invites you to linger in its beautiful gardens. One night in the Cahernane House Hotel (upper middle class). Approx. 225 km/approx. 4.5 hours (breakfast).

  • Day 7 Day 7: Killarney - Dublin
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 7: Killarney - Dublin

The return journey to the Irish capital Dublin is via the picturesque village of Adare, which is praised as the most beautiful on the island. Typical of Adare are the picturesque streets with their old thatched cottages. On the way you can also make a detour to Roscrea and visit Roscrea Castle and Damer House (optional). Continue to Kildare and visit the famous Irish National Stud and the Japanese Garden, considered one of the most beautiful gardens in Europe (optional). Once in Dublin, we recommend the Dublin Hop on-Hop off Tour (optional), which takes you past the most important sights of the metropolis, a visit to the Guinness Storehouse (admission included) or a shopping spree in Grafton Street and Henry Street. Round off your trip with a pint of Guinness in the lively Temple Bar district. One night at Fitzpatrick Castle (upper middle class). Approx. 325 km/approx. 4 hours (breakfast).
